COMMISSIONS
Bryony Ella
Bryony Ella is an interdisciplinary artist of British and Trinidadian heritage, who creates paintings, ‘wild drawings’ and public art installations that reimagine our relationship to nature, often developed through collaborations with academics and activists. She has a BA in Fine Art from Bath Spa University and an MA in Museology from the University of East Anglia, with a background in curating social history and science exhibitions across the UK.
Her work sits somewhere in the liminal space between science and spirituality and is inspired by the rich concept of embodied ecology, prompting questions around what it feels like to belong in nature, on which she recently wrote in ‘Wild Service: Why Nature Needs You’ (Bloomsbury Publishing). Recent international artist research and public realm projects have involved organisations such as the UK Centre for Ecology and Hydrology, Queens College CUNY, New York, COCO Dance Festival, Trinidad, British Council Americas, and the Grantham Institute – Climate and the Environment at Imperial College London.
Bryony’s commission Imaginal Cells: The Colour of Transformation is a film inspired by butterfly metamorphosis. Exploring the transformative power of imaginal cells, it reflects on our potential for radical change and deeper connection to nature. Through movement, pattern, and poetry, the film expresses a longing for ancestral wisdom and the urgency of rekindling our instinctive sense of interconnectedness with the more-than-human world.
Imaginal Cells: The Colour of Transformation will be premiered at the Royal Geographical Society’s Annual Conference on Friday 30th August 2024.
Keith Alexander
Keith Alexander is a London-based interdisciplinary artist from Chesapeake, Virginia, whose work spans dance, film, and immersive storytelling. Rooted in diasporic traditions and embodied storytelling, his practice explores themes of memory, connection, and identity. He holds a BA in Philosophy from Morehouse College, a Master of Theological Studies from Emory University, and an MFA in Creative Practice: Transdisciplinary from Trinity Laban, where he was a US-UK Fulbright Scholar.
Blending the visceral with the cinematic, Keith’s work draws from Afro-futurism, nature, and improvisational structures to reimagine connections across time and space. His recent accomplishments include the 2022 Dance Canvas and Atlanta Contemporary Art Museum Choreographic Residency, commissioned works with Emory University and Trinity Laban, and performances at the 2023 Festival Duo Solo Danse in Saint-Louis, Senegal, and the 2025 Resolution Festival in London. He is a recipient of the Professional Advancement in Dance Award from Jacob’s Pillow and the Training Diaspora Africa Certificate from École des Sables. Keith is currently mentored by Dan Canham through the Sadler’s Wells Mentorship Programme.
Keith has been commissioned to create Fidy Twuny, an immersive experience set in an underwater future. The story follows Fidy, guided by The Four — ancestral spirits who illuminate his path to liberation. Through motion capture and projection, Fidy’s world transforms as he embraces a vision of bioluminescent abilities, symbolising the strength of ancestral wisdom and the beauty of surrendering to nature’s guidance.
